How To Improve Your Health
Reduce Health Risks and Enjoy More
You Should & You Can!
By Senior Editor Kisha Sippy
Reducing your health risks through exercise and nutrition are not as difficult as you may think! I’m sure you agree that eating well and exercising more frequently than not are good for you. The question is, “How do I get there?!”.
Set realistic, sequential and attainable goals that push you. Great fitness is a combination of physical health, mental harmony and healthy lifestyle. In a lot of ways, this process is like climbing a gradual mountain. Though you can see the summit, the only way to get there is to take one step at a time. Keeping your focus on the next step and not the summit is the key to staying motivated and enjoying each small success along the way.
Step 1: Diet
The easiest thing to start with is cleaning out the pantry! If it’s not in your home, you’re much less likely to eat it! Don’t deprive yourself though. Keep small amounts of your favorite indulgences around and use them as rewards. The key here is quantity.
Countless studied have documented people consume food relative to how much is presented to them. You can take simple steps to help yourself by simply using smaller plates and bowls. Journaling everything you eat is also a strategy that many people find useful to limiting their calorie intake.
As you get more fit you may actually experience, like many do, a loss of appetite for unhealthy foods, so keep your initial goals reasonable. Set yourself up for success by not raising the bar too fast! One step at a time and pace yourself – the summit is a lifestyle, not a short push!
Step 2: Exercise
Exercise is so vitally important to living. Most people are busy and in ways that don’t get their heart rate up, at least not in the ways they want to. Exercise is key to reducing stress, improving energy levels, protecting and maintaining almost every body system you have and is the most effective long term strategy for limiting the #1 KILLER in the United States – heart disease.
Take the first step by walking. Pedometers are affordable and like documenting what you eat, they’ll tell you exactly how far you’re walking. Walking more is the easiest way to inject more exercise into your daily routine. Park further from your destinations, walk and discuss questions at work instead of emailing or phoning, walk to the mailbox, walk on your breaks and take a walk after dinner. Using your body burns calories, the more intensely your use, the more calories you burn and the greater your cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary benefits.
Lifeline has created a new product called the PowRWalk Pro™, which basically allows you to walk the same way, but burn 3X the calories. The PowRWalk Pro™ connects your hands to your feet with resistance cable and then works everything in between as you walk. Engaging your upper body and core while you walk makes this full body calorie burn possible!
Step 3: Take the Next Step
Once you build some momentum, keep yourself going by trying new things and gradually increasing the challenges you give yourself. Try new programs, cooking, DVDs and products. We, of course, are biased towards Lifeline Products. Everything Lifeline makes is affordable, works, and works well.
Traditionally, Lifeline supplied professional athletes and trainers with their competition-grade generally-portable fitness equipment, and has only just begun to offer products to the general fitness universe. Over 30 years of research, development and quality say we’re a safe bet and we have products that will challenge you at your level up through and to the summit!
